Before, Now, After

Just found an image I made about a year ago. I wanted to make an illustration called Before, Now, After, and came up with this concept. Using our planet - the beginning, present and doomsday, and also using a person and a flower to illustrate life and death.

Love & Death - Graphic Novel

Another school assignment, this time a graphic novel. I had the choice between making a children book or  a graphic novel, and there were also lots of different subjects to chose from. I went for one with the title "Love and Death", which are topics that fascinates me in many ways. There are almost infinite ways of making a story with this title, and I wanted to make something different from things I have seen before. Usually stories have a happy ending. The good guy wins. Love prevails. I wanted to focus more on the bad sides of "love", like jealousy, hate, obsession etc. You read and hear about it all the time.. People fighting over the same person,  breakups, people getting their hearts torn out... even people killing their ex.  Yeah, we live in a fucked up world.

It is also a story about egoism. Having a goal and going for it, just focusing on achieving that goal and not caring about others. Often that`s how I feel reality is like. Being so blinded by our own egos that we don`t see or care what happens to anyone else.

Anywhos, that is mainly what inspired me to make it this way. A twisted and dark graphic novel named Love & Death.

Due to a lot of lost days because of travelling, moving and illness I didn`t get time to make it the way I first intended. Because of this I also ended up handing it in late and will therefor get 10% off of the grade... which sucks. So there are still some things that could use some polish and things I would do differently if I had more time. But all together I´m quite happy with it! And the prints looks super awesome:)

Fairytale & Folklore

For the fairytale & folklore project we got to chose a fairytale and dig deeper into it, find out what it`s really about. I chose Beauty and The Beast, a tale that always has fascinated me. And it was quite interesting to learn more about it.  I found that the tale has two main messages:
1. It is the inner beauty that counts. This one has always been pretty obvious to me.
2. Arranged Marriage. This one came more surprisingly.

For the first illustration I wanted to express Beauty`s fear from the beast. The difficulty of seeing that someone looking that horrid can really be nice.
I also tried to use a different drawing technique on this one. It was fun. But I really should have found a fur-brush.

Fear of The Beast:

The second one I made was about the arranged marriage part. I wanted to put the story to a place where arranged marriage is still being used, and I chose to use the Middle East. I put a lot of metaphors into this one. I actually think everything I`ve chosen to draw is a metaphor for something in the story. Cave = Castle walls, Restrictions. White Mustang = white horse. Weapons (instruments of terror) = instruments etc. Never got the time to color it properly and add finishing touches though. Maybe I´ll spend some more time on it one day.

Student Health Editorial

Yet another editorial. On this one I was to make one large and one small illustration for a student health post in a magazine. It was about students starting at uni and having their questions answered by a doctor, i think.

I wanted to play on humor, making things seem less serious and frightening.

Love Your Anger

Another editorial assignment. On this one I was to make a cover for G2 magazine, and the topic was about learning how to handle your anger, and that it was healthy to be angry as long as it was controlled somehow.

I wanted to something new and use photos instead of drawing. I came up with the idea of using a smiley built up by small, angry faces. So that you would only see the smiley from a distance, but when you get closer you`ll see all the pissed off guys. Love your anger.

Tabasco

My first assignment in England and a new study,  going from Graphic Design to Illustration. I actually found it weird just to be focusing on an illustration and not also everything around, like text and following grids and stuff. It felt really different from what I had been doing these previous years.

I got a brief about tabasco sauce, which I hardly understood anything from. The language was so advanced! So I spent a lot of time looking up words. After understanding a bit more I was finally able to come up with a final piece, which ended up looking like this:

Maarud Redesign

This assignment was all about redesign, to come up with smarter solutions for packaging. And I ended up choosing chips which has had pretty much the same kind of packaging for ages.
The package I came up with would make it possible for the bag to stand by itself, so that it would be easier to eat from without using a bowl. It would have a zip lock so that it would be possible to close it and save some chips for later without the chips turning bad. It would also take less space and would be more practical for transporting.

Magazine

The biggest assignment we had our last semester was to chose one of our magazine covers and make the content for it. As I already had to make new magazine covers I also had to make new content.. within a week. My previos magazine was shit, but it had given me enough material to put into the new one. I got a lot of work I wanted to use from some very talented friends of mine, which I am forever grateful to.  But still, I had little time to pull it off since the exam was steadily approaching.

It is a magazine ment for art students, about students and comes with tips and tutorials. It was also ment to be free, or at least very cheap.

Magazine Covers

This was an assignment I had to totally redo before my exam. It was the first assignment that semester and I was suppose to come up with three magazine covers. I made the three covers and was ready for presentation. But my Mac wanted it otherwise and decided to crash... for the second time that year. The assignment was picked out to be one of the hand ins at the exam and of course I had no backup.

Luckily we always had a week to prepare for the exams, so I put aside a day or two to make up some new covers. The first one is a Rock Magazine called Bakgården (the backyard), the second, KREA, a Creative Magazine for art students, and the third, KVADRATED (square) a Design Magazine.

Another group assignment at school were I worked as AD. We were to make a brochure for kids about recycling of garbage and stuff. We chose to use cartoon superheroes to make it more interesting for kids. Each of the characters represents different kinds of recycling and tells them where to throw the different wastes.
